Ferris Bueller Old Enough to be the Class of 2019’s Dad

This year’s graduating class enters the workforce with unemployment rates holding at just around 4%, which is still historically low. College graduates will soon be flooding the job market, but what we do know about this year’s graduating class?

Every year, since 1998, Beloit College has put together “The Mindset List”, which catalogs pop culture references for each graduating class and reveals what graduates think is “normal” based on their age. The list has become so popular, that it’s even spawned two books. The majority of this year’s graduates entered college in 2015 and were born in 1993, which means Ferris Bueller is old enough to be their dad.

The Class of 2019 does not recall George H.W. Bush as President and there’s always been at least two women on the Supreme Court. State laws have required them to wear bike helmets as kids and video games have always come with a rating, like movies. Free downloads of music have always been an option and the Commodore 64 was already off the shelf.

The Internet has always been available and PC most likely is a reference to a computer, not political correctness. McDonald’s coffee has always come with a “contents may be hot” reference and stores have had an online presence where they could swipe cards, not stuff. They have never been able to order out of a Sears Catalog.

If you have open positions or if your job search feels like “Bueller…Bueller…” with no answer, contact us.  We can help before the list for incoming freshmen comes out this fall.
